*The last day of the month in May brought in a strong field of cars for the Lonnie Smith Memorial race. The Super Late Models as part of the United Rebel and Sooner Series drivers paid tribute to Lonnie Smith.
*Starting off the night was the Allied Battery Stock Division, this class always impresses the crowd. Beau Davis redrew the pole spot and jumped out to an early battle with A-Aron Esparza, Aaron took control the first few laps, while Beau was holding on battling Mason Schell for 2nd, Mason drove by him and headed towards the front. Mason drove to the bottom making some contact and sliding by on the inside to take the lead, Aaron looked to then get square the next few laps once on the front stretch and again in turn 4 but Schell saved it and started to pull away. Esparza then got into Beau Davis sending him around and had em all re-stack with the 99 on the tail. Jayce Reimer, Beau Davis and Baby Ramey all battled for the runner up spot but at the end it was an all BDR top 3!! Mason Schell congrats on your first win! Beau Davis 2nd, Jayce Reimer 3rd, and Baby (Austin) Ramey home in 4th.
*Up next and with 23 Cars starting in the Wickham Heating and Air Conditioning mini stock/ tuner class we were in for a good one. Tyler Griffitts looked super fast to start and lead the race, he later with just a lap to go succumbed to another Gremlin with a flat tire making for a crazy finish. David Bice and Justin Esparza were in a tight race to the line, but it was Bice there first until hitting the tech line and being Disqualified for a rules infraction. That Stripped him from the win and handed the beautiful special event trophy and the victory to Justin Esparza! Christopher Clark 2nd , Kaaaarson Keeler sneaks into 3rd, and Ken Hapy 4th!! Rules-are-da-rules
*Seeing the throwback on the side of Delbert Smith’s Late Model was worth the price of admission, but the racing action by far was the cherry on top! It was only right that the hard charger went to Dan Smith, and we look forward to working with the family in the future to grow and build on this event. Kyle Berck seems to be the fastest all night, and with Conkwright scratching for mechanical issues it was Berck leading every lap and taking home the win! Joseph Gorby could make a run but not enough to get by, he was strong in 2nd, Josh Leonard 3rd, Dusty Leonard 4th, and The “Iceman” himself Delbert Smith taking the 5th spot! Who here loved the 4 wide salute along with the Musco Light show??!
*The JLR Property management 316 mods went out last, I don’t have enough time to describe all the yellow that flew, with 19 minutes expired and only ONE lap completed you could sense the frustration from the race director, tower, and fans alike. Maybe look past your radiator caps. Let’s just end it with good job to Ryan McAninch on the win. Hell the rest may still be racing to get their 14 more laps done.
