pics- Just Good old racing photos
-We started off the Lonnie Smith Memorial race night with some amazing trophies provided by the Smith Family (see pic) and 110 cars checked in. The wind was strong, and picked up throughout the night. Track crews had the surface on point for the first 3 of six Feature events. After a long red flag on lap one in the Allied Battery Stock Cars the racing finally got underway. This delay we will touch on later.
-The Stock car drivers always put on a show and after an intermission farming session they had plenty of lanes to choose from. Early on Tyler Frye looked to be in control of the race, but drove into turn 3 a bit too hard and uncharacteristically looping it. This placed Beau Davis in a familiar spot at the front being challenged by Jayce Reimer. Jayce had a few runs and some potential more speed, but Beau blocked and cruised into O’reilly VL by Logan’s Landscape and tree service! Reimer 2nd, Scott Miller 3rd, Hard Charging “Fisherman” Joey Richmond up 17 spots for 4th, and Chris Holle strong in 5th.
-Next up was the Treasure Hunt Estate sales mini-stock / Hornet class. 28 of these buzzers checked in! After a fast B-main we got started with Andy Smith at a torrent pace leading the first 4 circuits, after a small slip up it was the 33 of Keeler back in front. Two new racers here at the speedway Jason Weber and Dylan Whitley challenged Keeler and each other all night, We welcome you all back soon to the track! Keeler wins, Weber 2nd, Whitley 3rd, and Andy Smith 4th.
-The Sooner Series super late models did not disappoint, with 3 and 4 wide racing it was action packed throughout the field. The track held up in the 40+ mph winds for 22 of the 25 laps. Eli Ross wasted no time getting to the front by lap 5, Joe Gorby did challenge on a few runs but Eli had the sweep in mind after winning at Humboldt the night before and wasn’t going to let Gorby by. Ross wins and takes home the Lonnie Smith Memorial race trophy ! Gorby 2nd, Braxten Leonard 3rd, Dan Smith 4th, and Dusty Leonard 5th. We look forward to the next LSM race and love working with Delbert, Dan, the entire Smith Family and the Sooner Late Model Series.
- Here is where I flip the script, Some nights part of the blame goes on us, this is one of them. We really had no choice, it was late, the wind wasn’t stopping, the crowd was leaving , and the track was locked down. I will apologize starting with Alternative pest management USRA Mods, when they hit the track all they could do was stay in the lane, follow the car in front of them, and hope they made a mistake so you could slip underneath. We will work on our team to be more efficient throughout the night. Track prep team worked hard in those conditions all day, but Mother Nature kept blowing back, and with some longer delays than needed, and several cautions in the races prior, we lost it. Sorry. It was Chevy Coleman off to lock in for the win, Cuz Dan Powers 2nd, Tyler Davis 3rd, Alex Cammon 4th, and Brody Robe 5th.
- The coolest part of the TM fencing LLC Super Stocks was seeing Youngster Jaiden Eveland nab his first ever win and take a beautiful LSM trophy home. How he did it, Jerrod Reimer took the lead and was poised to win but succumbed to an ignition problem coming to the white flag, Jaiden had to fend off Fred Freeman the last two and got it done. Fred 2nd, Reimer scored 3rd as Robert foster didn’t go to the scales after the race , and Michelangelo England was a DQ. We would love to see a few more of these cars out this season, If you know of one, I’d encourage them to get out soon.
- The finale was the Poorman Auto supply USRA B-mods. It was K.C. Mullin and Jake Richards starting the battle to the Bottom early. Mullin got there and led 11 laps until lap car in turn 4 appeared to receive contact from Mullin and made contact with the infield tire and then onto inside front wall. Was the call correct, Driver Mullin definitely disagreed and stated his case, but the race went on and handed the win to Tyler Kidwell. Jake Richards 2nd, and “Don’t take my parking spot” Josh Lanterman 3rd, and Nathan Hagar 4th.
- -We again apologize not being the best place to race on this night. Like a bad day as a driver, we definitely had one as a track. Thanks and see you again soon as the speedway prepares for Monster Trucks, Demo Derby Cars, and back to racing as we welcome in the ASCS National tour!
